The "Tarot des Kami et Yōkai" is a tarot deck project based on Japanese folklore. The 22 major arcana will feature some of the Kami - the goddesses and gods in Shinto mythology, like Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu and Suzanoo. The 56 minor arcana will illustrate the Yōkai - these wonderful and scary supernaturals creatures, who are now pretty popular outside of Japan, thanks to manga, movies and many other mediums.
We announced the project back in June 2022, where we shared our creative process and the illustrations done so far. I am drawing the 78 cards of this tarot and Amandine is writing the description for each cards in a complete booklet. We’re done with the 22 first major arcana, we’re just getting started on the minor ones, illustrating the monsters, ghosts and other terrifying and magical creatures that are part of the Yōkai family.
